　                    「東京のカラスは、なぜ激増した？」

　           " Why have crows drastically increased in Tokyo ?"

         
１．東京には、現在、２万羽のカラスがいると言われる。

    It is said that there are twenty thousand crows in Tokyo now.

２．このカラス、ときには睡眠中の赤ちゃんを襲うなどの事件を引き起こしているが、なぜ東京のカラスはこんなに増えたのか？

    These crows sometimes cause problems such as attacking sleeping babies,

　　but what has caused this increase of crows in Tokyo ?

３．ひとつは、エサである。

    One of the reasons is food.

４．東京では、毎日、大量の生ゴミや残飯が出るが、これがカラスには、かっこうのエサになり、結果として異常繁殖をもたらすことになった。

   A large quantity of leftover food garbage is produced in Tokyo every day.

   This has become a good source of food for the crows, resulting in

   abnormal propagation.

   （注：leftover (形) 食べ残された。

         food garbage = （名）残飯も含んだ生ゴミ）
　
５．また、人間からエサをもらうカラスも多く、こうなると人馴れしたカラスは、 平気で人前に出るようになる。

    There are also many crows that are fed by people. 

    These crows get used to people and are not afraid to appear before them.

     (注：get used to = ～に馴れる)

６．そのため、実数以上にたくさんいるように感じられるということもある。

   Therefore, it may seem that there are more crows than there actually are.

７．いずれにせよ、現在の東京人の生活スタイルがカラスを増やしていることは間違いない。

   Either way, there is no doubt that the lifestyle of the people living in Tokyo

   is  increasing the number of crows.

８．カラスを減らそうと思ったら、まず人間の暮らしぶりを変えるしかなさそうである。

     It seems that people must first change their lifestyle, in order to reduce

     the number of crows.

９．ご存じのとおりカラスは、頭がいいので、絶対的な撃退法はありません。

    As you know,  crows are smart, so there is no absolute way of  driving them away.

１０．でも、比較的苦手なのが光るものです。

    However, they seem to more or less dislike shiny things.

    (注：more or less = 多少、幾分 = to some extent 或る程度）

１１．そこで注目されているのが、ＣＤやフロッピーデイスクをカラスが出没するところに吊す方法。

    Hanging CDs or floppy disks where crows appear is worth noting.
